OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

Okay i kinda understand this one but how do i count the units if they are not whole? @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

This is the question.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

ok let me read it over

OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

Okay

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The tree on the left is located at (35,28) what is the x coordinate of this point?

OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

35?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes how about the other tree? what is the x coordinate of that other point?

OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

70

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

how far is it from 35 to 70? think of a number line

OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

35 units.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yep, you find that by subtracting 70 - 35 = 35

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

now focus on the y coordinates the point (35,28) has the y coordinate of 28 the point (70,15) has the y coordinate of 15 how far is it from 15 to 28 on the number line?

OpenStudy (sarah.ranee):

13

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

good

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so imagine we had these two points plotted the two points (35,28) and (70,15) |dw:1464323903214:dw|

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

we can form a right triangle like this |dw:1464323940080:dw|
