How did Antony ultimately win over the crowd? Write two paragraphs that describe his use of persuasive appeals, comparing and contrasting with the speech Brutus gave. Provide specific examples from the text to support your point. Use proper spelling and grammar.

OpenStudy (sarhamby1227):

I feel that the Antony speech maybe would've been more moving. First off, the murder of Caesar was a traumatizing one (they stabbed him like twenty seven times or somthing). I would've been on the conspirators sides if they haven't done it so brutally. IT seemed as if though they did it out of their own pleasure. Who stabs someone twenty seven times? Brutus's speech discusses how he loved Caesar (even though he stabbed him, again, twenty seven times) and how he did it for the good of Rome. With an ambitious ruler like Caesar, Rome would've become slaves to him. However, Antony's speech says how he loved Caesar like all of Rome and how he had helped all of them and how Brutus was a "honorable man" (sarcasm ). I wouldn't have been moved by Brutus's speech because i had KNOWN what had happened during the murder. I witnessed it. And how different it was from out of love for Rome. It seemed more like out of hatred for Caesar.

So you can add that in the essay, along with how Brutus was ambitious and had a goal in mind, while Caesar didn't have his ideals set on his future. that's from another page.. EclipsedStar one year ago I think there's more (still reading). xD EclipsedStar one year ago Antony didn't really praise Caesar (he belittled him instead), but he openly showed his gratitude and how Brutus was superior and was a better leader (in how I read the text. I don't know the whole story so I could be excluding information). EclipsedStar one year ago An excerpt to support that: "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interrèd with their bones. So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus Hath told you Caesar was ambitious. If it were so, it was a grievous fault, And grievously hath Caesar answered it. Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest— For Brutus is an honorable man; So are they all, all honorable men— Come I to speak in Caesar’s funeral."

OpenStudy (sarhamby1227):

the people liked caesar. the senate thought he was becoming ambitious king/ emperor type. when caesar was assassinated mark Anthony addressed the people --- his audience. he called caesar a friend" who was "faithful and just". He gave the impression that caesar should not have been assassinated (which was the crowds perspective). He reminded them that Caesar was a great war hero and brought back slaves (captives) vital to rome and filled romes coffers. that he was a generous man. He had promised to say nothing negative about the assassination of Caesar. So Antony and called the conspirators “honorable men,” but the tone of his voice spoke otherwise. When he said they are honorable men, he was actually mocking them, and the crowd caught on and started to riot. he curses those that spilt Caesars blood (killed him). that Caesars spirit needs revenge. This turns the crowd solely against the senate.
