Probability question! Suppose a bag contains 7 blue chips and 3 gold chips. What is the probability of randomly choosing a gold chip, not replacing it, and then randomly selecting another gold chip?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

any ideas?

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

Well since there's 10 chips in the bag and three are gold, I thought the first one would be a 3/10 chance of getting a gold chip... am I right?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

good but there's one more step

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

what about the second gold chip?

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

Yeah, after that wouldn't it be 2/9?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

perfect! then you just multiply 3/10 times 2/9

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

Ohh okay that makes sense. I was trying to add the two numbers.
