tips/strategies for Organic Chemistry? Next year I'm going to be re-taking Organic Chemistry I (last time I took it I ended up getting overwhelmed by the work and withdrawing early). What are some things I can do to better prepare myself this time?
Ask questions. Don't waste your time memorizing things you can look up. Practice. Over, and over, and over.
Organic chem, like in college? not just naming compounds right? Read and understand the content on the textbook you are assigned - or better yet, read Clayden. I found that having an inventory of all reactions you are supposed to know (meaning how each reagent interacts with all the functional groups.. for the course, of course) was very helpful and maximized my studying time because i wasn't wasting time looking things up. Also, writing all the mechanisms down as many times as it takes for you to be able to recall them on the spot AND understanding why they are what they are will help you tackle new mechanisms that the prof might throw at your during a test or exam. Do as many problems as you can.
i took CHM1035 or 32 i dont remember which one, but i was taking that chem class as a requisite for my nursing program and it was a half organic chemistry course. it was weird. anyways, i found organic chemistry surprisngly easy. There is not a lot of math unlike other chemistry curses i mean there are some formulas but they are as easy to memorize as the density formula which is D=M/V. Just make sure you understand everything and study/memorize the concepts because thats what is all about knowing the key facts. Not hard tbh, good luck!
Yes, that makes sense I'm pretty good with math but conceptual stuff tends to fly over my head
im better with conceptual stuff than math thats why i would pick bio over chem any day lol the margin of error is just too big when math is involved
