A triangle with vertices at A(0, 0), B(0, 4), and C(6, 0) is dilated to yield a triangle with vertices at A′(0, 0), B′(0, 10), and C′(15, 0). The origin is the center of dilation. What is the scale factor of the dilation?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

compare a set of before and after points so like B (0, 4) and B' (0, 10) we want to know, what times (0,4) gets (0,10) so something times 4 = 10 can you think what that something might be?

OpenStudy (kandy):

2 1/2 ?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

that's right! so that would be your scale factor :) you can check this by doing does 2 1/2 times 6 equal 15?

OpenStudy (kandy):

YUP! thank you !!!

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I'm glad I could help :) Welcome to OpenStudy by the way ^_^
