OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

Can someone please explain on how to do these 4 problems ? x - 3 > 2x -1 12x+9<2x−4 11x+14<3x-10 8x+7<7x-8

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

So first of all, you have to solve for the value of x.

OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

so for the first one would I start like this: x+2x>1+3

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

Not quite. x -3 > 2x -1 -2x -2x -x -3 > -1

OpenStudy (queenie):

check ur signs... should be x - 2x > -1 + 3

OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

-x<-1+3 -x<2 x>-2

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

Incorrect, note that you change the order of the > from how it is supposed to be.

OpenStudy (queenie):

-x > 2 x < -2

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

You must remember that the inequality signs must stay consistent.

OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

i thought u change it when ever u move a negative

OpenStudy (queenie):

not when u move a negative...only when u multiply or divide by a negative

OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

oh i see

OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

for the second one would it be done like this: 12x+2x<-4-9 14x<-13 x<-0.93

OpenStudy (sloppycanada):

Remember, when changing things, we need to subtract positives and add negatives to balance the equation 12x + 9 < 2x -4 -2x from both sides 10x + 9 < -4 -9 from both sides 10x < -13 divide by 10 x = -13/10

OpenStudy (queenie):

12x - 2x < -4 -9...ur setting it up wrong Kawaii

OpenStudy (kawaiiiimya):

okay I see what I did wrong
