Fraction Question: I'm missing the concept

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

At a convention of monsters, 2/5 are red, 1/7 are blue, and 1/3 are green, and the remaining 26 are orange. How many monsters are attending the convention? I know you get a common denominator fraction of 92/105 and then subtract 105-92 to get 13/105. Then you say 13/105 (m) = 26. But why did you change the 92/105 to 13/105? I know the two make 105/105 =1, but I don't understand why you change that fraction.

OpenStudy (errinss):

you can also change them to decimals, than change them back to fractions

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

But what did changing 92/105 to 13/105 do to help me solve the problem?

OpenStudy (errinss):

it looks like you divided the top but forgot to do the same to the bottom

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

No. The 26 monsters remaining support the 13/105.

OpenStudy (amtran_bus):

Oh! They represent the 13/105. I see.
