can someone please help me with this math question? please? I'll fan and give a medal...

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

please show me how to graph y >= -5

OpenStudy (harrycraig):

linear inequality right ?

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

yes sir/ma'am

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

can you draw the line y = -5..?

OpenStudy (sshayer):

|dw:1466022606010:dw| this line and above region is the graph

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

there you go... someone always gives the answer.

OpenStudy (abbycross167):

@campbell_st umm, well I wanted the steps that way I could try it by myself with the other problems... But thank you sooo much for help!! @sshayer

OpenStudy (sshayer):

y=a is a line parallel to x -axis. if y>a ,then above the line if y<a then below the line.

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

the steps to this problem is knowing the type of line inequalities >= or <= are always solid lines.... meaning include all points on the line > or < are drawn as dotted lines... meaning don't include any points on the line so I always think for when graphing an inequality 1. just draw the line y = a or x = x or y = mx + b but use dotted or solid 2. Pick a point on one side of the line and test it so you have y >= -5 pick a point (1, 1) substitute y =1 in into y >= 5 and see if it's true is 1 >= 5 no ... so the point (1,1) isn't in the region... the region is everything on the other side of the line... stick to those steps and it will work every time... but be careful and don't pick a point on the line when testing. hope it makes sense and helps
