OpenStudy (pphalke):

Can I please have help on my question, it was the wrong answer

OpenStudy (pphalke):

OpenStudy (pphalke):

I got no mode for number one, 15 for number two and 14 for number 3

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

hint: the "frequency" represents how many times that number showed up so, 9 with a frequency of 3 means 9,9,9

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

try writing out all the numbers in the table using that method

OpenStudy (pphalke):

how do I d o that?

myininaya (myininaya):

the numbers in the first column are the observations the numbers in the second column provide the frequency of each observation frequency means the number of times the observation occurs so for example as @vocaloid did the first row for you value=9 with frequency=3 means 9,9,9 and value=12 with frequency=7 means 12,12,12,12,12,12,12 the mode is the observation with the highest frequency (you might also want to check your median number and your mean number) median for a data with an even amount of observations is the average of the two middle numbers (after the data has been listed from least to greatest) median for a data with an odd amount of observations is the middle number (after the data has been listed from least to greatest) the mean is the average of all the elements in the data

OpenStudy (pphalke):

would the mode be 12?

myininaya (myininaya):

yes there are more 12's than any other observation

OpenStudy (pphalke):

the mean is 14 is that wrong?

myininaya (myininaya):

it is close

OpenStudy (pphalke):

is it 70 then? @myininaya

myininaya (myininaya):

your mean should occur between the min and max of the elements 70 is totally outside that set of numbers :p

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

@pphalke you need to show work.

myininaya (myininaya):

example the mean of value 3 with freq 4 value 6 with freq 2 would be calculated like this (3*4+6*2)/(4+2) or if you want to list them all instead the mean of 3,3,3,3,6,6 is (3+3+3+3+6+6)/(6) the sum of the all the elements in the data divided by the number of elements in that data

myininaya (myininaya):

can you show us what you have after adding all the elements up and can you tell us how many elements are in your data

OpenStudy (pphalke):

I get 19

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Why aren't you showing any work?

myininaya (myininaya):

what is 19

OpenStudy (pphalke):

the mean and @agent0smith why show work when its easy

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

When you're doing things massively incorrectly, you absolutely should show work. Neither of your answers, 70 or 19, are remotely close to correct. Show your work.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

If it's easy, then why are your answers so far from being correct? If you're taking a math test, teachers don't just give full credit for the answer. Work needs to be shown, even for easy questions. Maybe you're taking an online class now. But don't expect it to be like this in college. Professors will check your work.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

@myininaya 19 is the answer I got for the mean and the mode is 12 but whats the median

myininaya (myininaya):

it is hard to tell what you are doing wrong in figuring out the mean since as @agent0smith has said you have not showed work (but 19 is still incorrect for the mean )

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

@pphalke Show your work.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

When people don't show work and their answer is incredibly wrong, my opinion is that they guessed.

OpenStudy (pphalke):

This is confusing as it is already

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

You aren't showing any work or real effort, other than some random numbers, 19 and 70. You haven't showed a single calculation at all.
