OpenStudy (abbles):

Choose the best descriptor for the graph of f(x) = ln(x - 5)

OpenStudy (afloridagirl):

whats the graphs

OpenStudy (abbles):

Answer choices: a. It increases rapidly, goes through the point (5, 1), then increases gradually. b. It increases slowly, goes through the point (5, 1), then increases rapidly. c. It increases slowly, goes through the point (6, 0), then increases gradually. d. It increases rapidly, goes through the point (6, 0), then increases gradually. I'm pretty sure it's one of the last two, either c or d. Because the graph is shifted right 5 units and would put the intersection at (6, 0). I could be wrong there. I'm pretty confused on the increasing gradually/slowly part though.

OpenStudy (abbles):

There is no graph..

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

here is how the graph looks: https://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=f(x)+%3D+loge(x+-+5) should help to decide on c or d :) good luck!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

look at the tangent lines to determine the growth rate

OpenStudy (abbles):

The two graphs look different... which one is right?

OpenStudy (abbles):

So I was right about the intersection. Let me have a look at the tangent lines..

OpenStudy (abbles):

What are the tangent lines exactly?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

wolfram graphs pieces that your teacher hasn't gone over yet, so ignore the orange part of the graph

OpenStudy (sdfgsdfgs):

mines bad :( sorry!

OpenStudy (abbles):

Judging from the graph, I would say the answer is d... not sure what tangent lines around though :P

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

`What are the tangent lines exactly?` @Abbles your teacher hasn't introduced the topic? If not, then ignore my statement earlier

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

look at the steepness of the curve. The more steep it is, the faster the growth rate

OpenStudy (abbles):

No I haven't heard of them, but I'm in an online class... when do you learn about them? precalc?
