Random lab questions that I don't even know what the heck they are asking e_e 1. Describe how you could tell if a colorless gas is: a. \(CO_{2}\) b. \(H_{2}\) How would \(CO_{3}+Ca(OH)_{2}\) react? i.e. \(CO_{3}+Ca(OH)_{2}\rightarrow\text{??}\)
You need to know some simple gas reactions. This video helps on this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiAvDpl5aJA You should find a 'pop' test for H2 A glowing splint test for O2 and a limewater test for CO2. The second question I think you mean how does CO2 (rather than CO3) react with Ca(OH)2 (limewater?) A carbonate will be formed which is why you see the limewater turn from clear to milky white and the other product is water.

My bad haha -- A carbonate? So then the OH will separate from the \(CaOH_{2}\)
The full reaction is CO2 + Ca(OH)2 --> CaCO3 + H2O
Oh, right, that's a hydroxide. My bad
Yeah your teacher should do these pracs in class with you, more easier to learn that way.
True. Thanks for helping out, though ☺
