Welcome to Openstudy :) There was nothing "British" then - England, Scotland, and Wales were all different countries. As was Ireland. And, there was certainly no democratic government! In fact, while the Anglo-Saxons elected their kings, the Normans did not, which is why William invaded in the first place. Source: yahoo!
