OpenStudy (word2):

Is it possible to plagiarize math?

OpenStudy (word2):

yes i understand that you can plagiarize anything but when it comes to math , is it possible? I mean we use the same formula for problems. and we use the same numbers maybe we say it in a different way but it's still the same thing. or example if your taking a flvs class and you have a question and you have to make a proof how possible is it that another student will not have the same if not exact answer as you when doing said proof without coping?

Atsie (atsie):

It is possible to plagiarize someone's else's answer only in the sense that you purposely look over their shoulder, gain the answer, and don't learn anything on your own. That solely is cheating. But if you are doing math on your own and you come to the same answer as another, then thats okay especially if that problem has a right answer and five million other people all came to that conclusion.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

When you copy someone else's answer to the same math question. Granted, there is not much you can do to change the work, but if you're copying it and not understanding what you're copying, then there's a problem Especially, when some helpers add some stuff to the question that the student hasn't learned and they copy that down too. The teacher could clearly catch you. For example in trig when the question doesn't specify the range and the helper says to add +2pik where k is all real numbers. Also, if they ask you to make a scenario and build a question on that. There are many different scenarios you can write and you can't easily copy someone else's solution

OpenStudy (word2):

oh i understand , i asked this question because the other day i got in trouble in flvs for get this having identical answers to a webpage , when i argued with the teacher saying i did not copy anything she sent me to the webpage and when i got there it was the same answer of what i gave but the question was different and i mean completely and utterly different , it wasn't even about geometry.

OpenStudy (word2):

therefore in this scenario and i plagiarizing?

Atsie (atsie):

Not all teachers can be correct unfortunately. :( But it was wise of you to make sure for your own mind and education. :)

OpenStudy (yanasidlinskiy):

Yea, professors have a plagiarizing app on their computers installed to check students work. Worst case scenario is when the teacher pulls it up in front of the whole to put you down. Pretty bad. Don't do it. I don't recommend it.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

scenario questions like: Make a scenario up to solve a system of equations something like that, and then you can make a scenario like A friend and I went to a carnival. I bought a hamburger and 3 chips for $3.50 My friend bought two hamburgers and a chip for $3.00 How much does a hamburger and chip cost? And then you make the system of equations and sovle it something like that (:

OpenStudy (word2):

no it wasn't like that but i think i get what y'all are saying
