physics question 7

OpenStudy (kittykat):

Can you explain me the differnece in elastic and inelastic , I m confused doing this qestion

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

Elastic is like a rubber band. It will stretch then return to it's original state. Something that isn't elastic will not return to it's original state, rather it will deform/elongate.

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

Elastic collision means kinetic energy is conserved. Inelastic means KE is not conserved (some is turned into heat/sound etc). You can check to see if: KE before collision = KE after collision

OpenStudy (agent0smith):

The fact that it comes to a stop, should give you a hint as to whether or not KE was conserved.

OpenStudy (sharmagk83):

Elastic collision is a collision in which the both total momentum and kinetic energy of the system remain conserved during the collision.but in case inelastic collision total momentum remains conserve but there is a loss of kinetic energy. So Basic difference between the both is that in case of elastic collision KE remain conserve but in inelastic collision there is a loss of KE.
