OpenStudy (wolf1728):

A) 5x -2y = 18 B) x +6y =10 Multiply equation "A" by 3 and add it to equation "B" A) 15x -6y = 54 B) x + 6y = 10 That should help you out.

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

@wolf1728 hi i need some help i did that and got x=49 this is what i did 3(15-6y=54)3 45-18y=162 y=-13/2 so then i put that in x+6(-13/2)=10 and then got x=49

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

@agent0smith hi could you help me pls

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Wolf already multiplied equation A by 3 for you. All you need to do is add the two equations now and solve for x. 15x -6y = 54 x + 6y = 10

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

x=4

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Well done :)

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

on the second problem do i need to re arrange 7-3y?

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

@TheSmartOne

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

you can to make it easier 7 - 3y is the same as -3y + 7

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

does anything change on how i solve this problem b/c it begins with 2x and x?

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

@TheSmartOne

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

you can multiply the second equation by 2 and eliminate x

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

not by negative 2? @TheSmartOne

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

if you do it by 2, you have to subtract the equations if you do it by -2, you have to add the equations

OpenStudy (adobohobo):

oh ok thank you so much!! @TheSmartOne
