OpenStudy (n0o0sha):

Solve the system: 3x-2y=6 3x-2y=2 Please help, i'm going crazzzy here!!

OpenStudy (photon336):

Have you tired elimination of one of the variables?

OpenStudy (photon336):

@n0o0sha

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Subtract the second equation from the first equation. Be careful with the subtraction -2y - (-2y). What do you get?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

The system of equations is inconsistent - it cannot be solved.

OpenStudy (n0o0sha):

i'll try that @mathstudent55

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hint: let z = 3x-2y that would lead to the system reducing to z = 6 z = 2

OpenStudy (n0o0sha):

i still don't get it @jim_thompson5910

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

If z = 6 AND z = 2 then that means 6=2 The equations are inconsistent

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

x and y represent numbers. They're unknown numbers z is also an unknown based on what x and y would be z can only be one number at a time. We can't say z = 6 and z = 2 at the same time. It's impossible to take on both values at once. Which is why this system has no solutions

OpenStudy (n0o0sha):

oh okay, thank you all :)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

u r welcome :-)
