OpenStudy (ageta):

Can someone give me 3 reason why children between age 6-17 should not vote

OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

1.) Underdeveloped Frontal Lobe 2.) Not enough understanding of the real world/politics (most econ, and politics classes are taken from 12th grade onward). 3. The effects of voting don't directly affect children and therefore they should not have a say in the matter. (Ex. They could vote for a 50% increase in taxes, but they ultimately wouldn't have to bear the burden of the decisions).

OpenStudy (ageta):

thank you

OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

Here is a great article on the underdeveloped frontal lobe of a teen.

OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

I'll summarize. The frontal lobe allows us to make judgement calls and evaluate how our actions and decisions might affect others. Teens are not yet developed enough to do this. (Their brains our LITERALLY not developed enough to preform this function.) Therefore, they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

Hope this helps!

OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

"This also may explain why teenagers often seem so maddeningly self-centered. "You think of them as these surly, rude, selfish people," Jensen says. "Well, actually, that's the developmental stage they're at. They aren't yet at that place where they're thinking about — or capable, necessarily, of thinking about the effects of their behavior on other people. That requires insight."

OpenStudy (blondie_b23):

If you can't properly evaluate how your actions (voting) will affect others, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
