Help, please! The vertices of triangle PQR are P(10 , -6), Q(6 , 2), and R(4 , -1). What translation places the image of the triangle entirely in Quadrant II?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

two questions. 1, what quadrant is it in right now ? QI? QII? QIV? or is it in more than one quadrant? 2, how far would you have to move the points to place the entire shape in QII?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

actually #2 can also be interpreted as "if you flip or rotate the triangle will the entire shape be displaced into QII?"

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

the important part is that you graph this !

OpenStudy (blowery):

Two of the points are in Quad IV, R and P. Point Q is in Quad I

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

hold on let me graph this

OpenStudy (blowery):

I did graph it, but I don't understand the concept of translation.

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

translation usually involves changing the position and/or size of the shape graphed. not sure about the size but position yes

OpenStudy (blowery):

How would you answer this question?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

well as far as I know, a single translation is not going to shift the triangle into QII... do they only want one translation?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

oh, wait... there is a type of translation that will work. hint: shift

OpenStudy (blowery):

I typed it as it was on my homework. I wish I could give you more information. Do you have any suggestion?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

OpenStudy (blowery):

So, is "Shift" the answer? What would the new coordinates be for P, Q and R. Or, is that important?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

that is a hint. and it would change the coordinates to P ' , Q ' , R '

OpenStudy (blowery):

Can you give me the new coordinates for P' Q' and R'?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

that would be a direct answer sorry

OpenStudy (blowery):

Not sure what you mean, are you not allowed to provide a direct answer?

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

no, this is not an answering machine

OpenStudy (kittiwitti1):

that would be brainly lol do you know what a 'shift' is in math?

OpenStudy (blowery):

Ok, I'm new. Did not know that. How about one of the three new coordinates to get me on the right track?

OpenStudy (blowery):

No, we have not been taught the concept of shift
