WILL GIVE MEDAL!!!! If triangle ABC is congruent to triangle DEF, which statement is not true? A.) segment AB ≅ segment DE B.) ∠C ≅ ∠E C.) segment BC ≅ segment EF D.) ∠A ≅ ∠D

OpenStudy (jclark):

are there 4 choices or 2?

OpenStudy (dehydrated):

4

OpenStudy (madisongoode):

Then what's the last two options?

OpenStudy (jclark):

The order in which the vertices of the triangles are listed matters. Each point corresponds with the other. So do the angles formed at those point.

OpenStudy (jclark):

AB is the same side as DE. Angle A is the same vertex as angle D...

OpenStudy (dehydrated):

@jclark I honestly have no clue thats why I asked. I missed this lesson.

OpenStudy (dehydrated):

i think it might b or c but I'm not sure

OpenStudy (dehydrated):

be*

OpenStudy (jclark):

That's it in a nutshell. If two triangles are listed as being congruent, then the order their points are listed have to correspond. ABC is congruent to DEF means point A is between segment AB and AC. Therefore, point D has to be between DE and DF.

OpenStudy (jclark):

If I say "ABC is congruent to DEF", the I can't turn around and say "ABC is congruent to EFD" its not the same thing. In the first statement, AB is congruent to DE, but in the second, AB would be congruent to EF.

OpenStudy (jclark):

If you follow this reasoning, you can match up the points in each answer choice. One of them will stand out as being false

OpenStudy (dehydrated):

@jclark THANK YOU THIS MAKES A LOT OF SENSE

OpenStudy (jclark):

yay!
