OpenStudy (kimberly_pr):

The yearbook club had a meeting. The meeting had 30 people, which is five-sixths of the club. How many people are in the club?

OpenStudy (kimberly_pr):

I think 35 @Will.H

OpenStudy (will.h):

explain how you got that while i check the question to safe time :)

OpenStudy (kimberly_pr):

OK, well I divided 30 by 6 and got 5, and then I added 5 to 30 to get 35

OpenStudy (will.h):

Not correct you don't have neither 5 nor six.. you have five-sixth which means \[\frac{ 5 }{ 6 }\] and they told you that the meeting had 30 people but they wanna know how many people are in that club. So x would be the total number of the people in the club (since it is unknown) and you should now form an equation and solve for x (which represent the number of people in the club) \[\frac{ 5 }{ 6 }x = 30\] it's funny that this equation is the exact same one that we solved awhile ago

OpenStudy (kimberly_pr):

OMG it is, so the answer is 36 people :) thank you!

OpenStudy (will.h):

you're welcome :)
