OpenStudy (vshiroky):

How do I find Q1 and Q3 in a problem?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

My numbers are: 1, 4, 16, 19, 24, 28, 31, 32, 44, 57, 62, 76, 79, 83, 93, 99

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Q1 and Q3 are basically the median of the upper and lower halves of the data set. Can you find the median of the data set?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

The median is 38

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Good, so can you give me the lower half of the data set?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

19

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Lower half of the data set should have 8 numbers! :(

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

Oh I was giving what I thought the Q1 was.. I thought that is what you meant

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

so 1-32

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Q1 is not 19. Can you copy and paste the first half, please?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

1, 4, 16, 19, 24, 28, 31, 32

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Good! Now can you find the median of the first half?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

21.5

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Exactly! Can you now do the same for the upper half?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Q1 is 21.5, and Q3?

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

77.5

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Exactly, Q3 is 77.5. Well done! :)

OpenStudy (vshiroky):

perfect thank you... I'm trying to get ready and teach my daughter how to do this

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Good, have a good session!
