Dr. Johnson: You need to lose weight. I would say at least 100 lbs. Patient: Why should I listen to you? You are overweight too. A. Hasty generalization B. false analogy C. Non sequitur D. Attacking the person, or argumentum ad hominem I think its D
Hasty generalization- a fallacy in which a conclusion is not logically justified by sufficient or unbiased evidence. False Analogy - when a comparison is made between two ideas or objects that seemingly have similar characteristics, but the comparison does not hold up. Non sequitur- a conclusion or reply that doesn't follow logically from the previous statement. I would say B just based on the definitions i provided :)
"The 'Attack the Person' fallacy is a form of distraction, forcing them into defense and away from their argument." I believe it's D also. You're attacking the person, not what idea or educated fact they are presenting (argument). Here's another example: "Jane says that drug use is morally wrong, but she is just a goody-two shoes Christian, so we don't have to listen to her." http://www.nizkor.org/features/fallacies/personal-attack.html It's also called ad hominem.
