OpenStudy (maysa_7984):

matter in which the particales are free to move in all directions until they have spread evenly through out their container is a

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

This describes a gas. A gas is the only state of matter in which particles spread to fill their container.

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

they are still free to move after that, though

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

Well, @IrishBoy123 , after they fill the container, they can't move in *all* directions, they can't go in any of the directions that go through the container. :)

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

can a single particle of gas in a contained environment move in any direction?

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

I say depends on where it is in the container. ;) It's really hard to get just one though...

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

@SapphireMoon sure, the wording of these questions is often very unhelpful a liquid fills its container. just saying.

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

A liquid doesn't necessarily fill it's container, it just changes its shape to *fit* its container. You've had a bottle half-full of water before, I'm sure, @IrishBoy123.

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

it's a plasma!!

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

What is? Plasma is superheated ionized gas, it has some pretty strange properties (they never talk about them in chem though for some reason...). What's your plasma, @IrishBoy123 ?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

lol!!

OpenStudy (osprey):

@IrishBoy123 Yup, the wording of the questions in some cases is expletive deleted. I guess that the "quiz masters" don't mind, and would "robustly defend" until a real howler came along. I don't know whether to laugh, cry or simply ridicule the "educationalists" also known as the "exam fodder factory". Ps, I've noticed a similarity between a gravitational potential energy graph and curvature of space time http://perendis.webs.com and see the photo of Cassini and grav lensing , as I've noticed a similarity between a UK O level distance time graph and a Minkowski diagram. Any thoughts on that and the "odd" behaviour of plane mercury in its orbit round the sun ? Bon voyage, et bon chance a toutes personnes (my french is getting worse)

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

@osprey Can't tell whether or not I'm being insulted... Will assume the best of everyone. :)

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

:-)

OpenStudy (osprey):

@SapphireMoon Where do you feel what I've posted is insulting ?

OpenStudy (raffle_snaffle):

ospresy lol! =)

OpenStudy (osprey):

Hi raffle ... I'm missing the joke here ...

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

@osprey I was partially joking, but still wondering if the "quiz masters" and "educationalists" were meant to refer to me in particular (you didn't appear to see them in a good light, lol). This entire thread I've been partially facetious, nobody's that pendantic unless they're joking, right? ;)

OpenStudy (osprey):

No. You may be a quiz master, or an educationalist, I don't know. I've "designed" a few puzzles and questions, and found it harder than I thought it would be to get them "bug free". But, I'm an amateur, and my questions wouldn't reach the "audience" that I guess people who use this site represent a sample of. Indeed, I used to sit at "the exam table" (think of "The sword of damacles"), looked at a question and wondered what on earth it was jabbering on about. Possibly, as with a computer program, bugs can be a mixture of lousy concept, lousy syntax, lousy logic, and maybe many other things. I just have the feeling that this particular question ...
