@TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

Add 1 to both sides 19+1=5x Simplify 19+1 to 20 20=5x Divide both sides by 5. 20/5 = x Simplify 20/5 to 4 4=x

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

@StudyTheWorld what are the reasons though?

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

like it doesnt ask to solve the problem

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

Oh, didn't see that bottom part; my bad. I thought it was asking how you got to each step. 19=5x-1 = given 20=5x = addition property of equality 4=x = division property of equality.

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

Do you need explanations for each of the selected options?

OpenStudy (jamaljunior):

the options it gives are weird. the only terms that i know there is combine like terms https://gyazo.com/178cb21a217378d82cac0f1281a8238f

OpenStudy (studytheworld):

19=5x-1 = given I believe this is the given, because it is the original equation provided. I think this is something that your cirriculum/work would confirm, but I believe this is what they mean. 20=5x = addition property of equality The property that states that if you add the same number to both sides of an equation, the sides remain equal. So we add one to both sides of the equation because of the -1 on the right. So we add it because of the addition property of equality - we must keep things equal. 4=x = division property of equality. The Division Property of Equality states that if you divide both sides of an equation by the same nonzero number, the sides remain equal. In this case, we are dividing because the 5 on the right is multiplied by x. So we must divide to get our final solution. And of course, we must divide both sides just like with the addition property of equality.

Does that make sense and do you agree with my answers?
