C because an independent variable is the variable that is changed or controlled in a scientific experiment. Independent variables are the variables that the experimenter changes to test their dependent variable. The effect on the dependent variable is measured and recorded.
what would the control group be?
@liziekay
What's a control group?
According to google, The control group is defined as the group in an experiment or study that does not receive treatment by the researchers and is then used as a benchmark to measure how the other tested subjects do.
What do you think it is?
the young trees
what's your reasoning?
cause it doesnt get touched
Well, are the scientists using it to compare the young trees to the young hemlocks? In this scenario, no. The trees don't really matter.
would it be the fence than?
She's looking at the young hemlocks and that would be the control group because that's the main point of the experiment.
ok thanks
thee ones surrounded by fencing or not surrounded?
The population of the hemlocks doubling isn't receiving treatment from the researchers, it's just doubling. Understand?
Not sure, reread the problem and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
ok thanks again
