hmm
I thought associative would be like
a(b*c) = (a*b)c
OpenStudy (sterling234):
What is -2*(3)
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
-6

thats where -6 comes from
OpenStudy (sterling234):
-2*( - 2x)
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
@Sterling234 Jamal is looking for the reason why - aka distributive property and stuff like that
OpenStudy (sterling234):
oh
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
i hate this!

@JamalJunior You did amazing in the last question!
it's the same ideas here!
let's see the format for a distributive property:
a(b + c) = a*b + a*c
-2(3 - 2x) = -6 + 4x
does this format look the same? ;)
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
yes
OpenStudy (sterling234):
when you see a problem like 2(5x) you distribute aka multiply the first term "2" into the parentheses "(5x) to get 10x
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
therefore for the second line in the table, the answer would be "Distributive Property"
do you see why?
OpenStudy (sterling234):
your basically "simplifying'"

is the next one combine like terms?
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
so close! but not quite...
you are moving the x from one side to the other then subtracting it from the 4x
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
so "combine like terms" is part of the answer, what do you think the other part is? :)
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
subtract
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
is the next 1 division

which link are we on?
jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):
subtracting is adding a negative
so the answer they want for the third line is "Addition Property and Combine Like Terms"
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
thats not an ooption :/
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
ohh third line
OpenStudy (jamaljunior):
my bad
