Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading west and the other east. The westbound train travels at 95 miles per hour. The eastbound train travels at 105 miles per hour. How long will it take for the two trains to be 280 miles apart? Do not do any rounding.

OpenStudy (ebonyserrano):

@Will.H

OpenStudy (mhchen):

First train travels 95mph Second train travels 105mph Distance = rate * time So if we model time as x: 95x + 105x = 280. Can you solve it from here? Or do you have trouble understanding how I came up with the equation?

OpenStudy (ebonyserrano):

I got x=7/5

OpenStudy (ebonyserrano):

@mhchen ?

OpenStudy (mhchen):

Yeah same here. So 7/5 of an hour. (Or 1.4 hours)

OpenStudy (ebonyserrano):

thanks!
