OpenStudy (amburger99):

In what ways are sound waves and electromagnetic waves different? They travel at different speeds. Electromagnetic waves have frequency but not wavelength. Sound waves have frequency but not wavelength. Sound waves have wavelength but not frequency.

help someone help help help

OpenStudy (amburger99):

i give medals

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

All waves have a frequency and a wavelength (otherwise they're not waves). During a thunderstorm, you see lightning before you hear thunder, what does that tell you about the relative speeds?

^^

OpenStudy (caseysorensen):

Sound is a wave of pressure mechanical wave. Hence, it requires a medium to propagate. EM waves are a form of energy emitted and absorbed by charged particles transmitted as oscillating electric and magnetic fields. They can travel through vacuum too Electromagnetic waves have frequency but not wavelength.

OpenStudy (sapphiremoon):

Electromagnetic waves totally have a wavelength. Radio waves have the longest wavelength and Gamma rays have the shortest. Long wavelengths mean low frequencies, and short wavelengths mean high frequencies. (I'm taking this unit right now, I have my chem book in front of me).
