OpenStudy (wckd_runner):

for the equation -4y = 8, what is the constant of variation? -4 -2 1 2 i think its 2 but i don't know

OpenStudy (amorfide):

is your given expression -4y=8x, or -4y=8

OpenStudy (wckd_runner):

omg yeah its -4y =8x im sorry

OpenStudy (amorfide):

okay so, the constant of variation. To work out the constant of variation, you must rearrange your expression in the form y=kx where k is a constant you have -4y=8x can you rearrange this to make y the subject?

OpenStudy (wckd_runner):

i don't know how i'm just trying to get a bit caught up, i'm sorry

OpenStudy (amorfide):

okay if you want to rearrange an expression you must know what the opposite signs are for example opposite to addition is subtraction, + - opposite to subtraction is addition - + opposite to multiply is divide x / opposite to divide is multiply / x so we have -4y=8x we want 1 y, not -4y since -4y is -4 multiplied by y we must divide by something to get y so we know if we have -4 divided by -4 we get 1 so -4y/-4=y so we divide by -4 right? so we must divide by -4 to both sides to get -4y=8x -4y/-4=8x/-4 y=-2x the constant of variation is k, which is the number in front of x -2 is your answer

OpenStudy (wckd_runner):

you are the real mvp, thank you so much

OpenStudy (amorfide):

would appreciate it if you award me with best response
