State the number one way of increasing the solubility of a substance and explain why it has that effect, Also, explain two ways you can increase the rate of dissolving for a substance.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

So first, let us review the definition of solubility. Solubility is defined as the relative ability of a solute (solid, liquid, or gas) to dissolve into a solvent and form a solution. So basically, what factors can help a solute become dissolved? Well first, think of temperature. As temperature is increased, bonds are capable of being effectively broken. So perhaps a compound that was formerly held together by intermolecular attractions can now be broken and thus become soluble. (although, there are exceptions to this general/common trend, mostly seen with gases) However, if we are dealing with gases, there's another way that solubility can be increased, and this can be accomplished through increasing the pressure. Think about a soda, and how you hear the hiss of gas that escapes when you open it. This is because the contents are under pressure in order to keep the Carbon Dioxide dissolved within the sugary drink. (Also note that pressure's affects on solubility are more or less negligible with solid/liquid solutes). So the more pressure there is, the more soluble a gas is. Hope this helps :)
