OpenStudy (nevermind_justschool):

I think I multiply the 1st equation (-5y) by 2 and the 2nd equation (+2y) by 5 http://prnt.sc/dlw0hf

OpenStudy (518nad):

to eliminate the y terms

OpenStudy (518nad):

u have to have the same number of ys in both equations

OpenStudy (518nad):

negative or positive

OpenStudy (nevermind_justschool):

Wouldnt a positive and a negitive eliminate eachother? and that's the point, right?

OpenStudy (518nad):

one way is to multiply the top by 2 And the bottom equation by 5

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you are almost correct but the 2 or the 5 needs to have a negative.

OpenStudy (nevermind_justschool):

Is doesn't matter which one is negative?

OpenStudy (518nad):

no 2 and 5 is right

OpenStudy (518nad):

no need to have negative

OpenStudy (welshfella):

oh yes ! sorry

OpenStudy (nevermind_justschool):

Is my answer right or do I need a negative?

OpenStudy (518nad):

its right if u want to add both equations

OpenStudy (518nad):

what welshfella said is not wrong either, u just have to subtract the equations then

OpenStudy (nevermind_justschool):

That's the point, adding I mean. :)

OpenStudy (518nad):

ya its good then :)

OpenStudy (nevermind_justschool):

Gracias

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Yes. It is generally easier to add when you have a negative number . Some people get confused with double negatives.
