Arthur has decided to start saving for a new computer. His money is currently in a piggy bank at home, modeled by the function s(x) = 85. He was told that he could do the laundry for the house and his allowance would be a(x) = 10(x − 1), where x is measured in weeks. Explain to Arthur how he can create a function that combines the two, and describe any simplification that can be done.

So he starts saving for a computer. He already has s(x)=85 and by doing the laundary for the house he can also get a(x) = 10(x-1) = 10x-10
You can combine a(x) + s(x) which would equal all the money he is saving towards his computer. So combine 10x-10 and 85 and what do you get?

10x+75?
darkknight:
Yes. Correct!
esha1963:
so thats the final answer?

That would be indeed. Because you combine both of his saving values, which is what we are trying to do.
