Lulabalula:

Math- Fifty students were eating lunch in the school cafeteria. The ratio of boys to girls was 25:25. Mrs. White asked Kym to explain what that ratio meant. Kym said it meant that 25% of the students in the cafeteria were boys.

Lulabalula:

Im confused tho like how did you get the answer

jimthompson5910:

When it says "the ratio of boys to girls was 25:25" it means there are 25 boys and 25 girls The ratio is just a compact way of writing the values together The first number is the number of boys The second number is the number of girls Another example of a ratio would be 50:60 meaning there are 50 boys and 60 girls So going back to 25 boys and 25 girls, is it true that 25% of the students are boys?

Astrid1:

Sorry everyone. I lost internet for a minute

jimthompson5910:

correct

Lulabalula:

ok thanks

jimthompson5910:

since we have 25+25 = 50 students and 25/50 = 0.50 = 50% are boys

jimthompson5910:

no problem

Lulabalula:

that wasnt as confusing
