ok so first we are going to distribute the -3 to everything inside the parentheses. so we have -3(x+1) . -3*x=-3x and -3 x 1=-3 so we now have -3x-3+5x<-7 then we combine like terms (-3x+5x=2x) now we have 2x-3<-7. we must then add 3 to both sides to get the variable on a side by itself. so when adding 3 to both sides we get 2x<-4 now all you have to do is solve \[2x<-4\]
