supie:

Ok so do you know what the term correlation means?

mathclass:

no

supie:

@jhonyy9

starbucksgirl13:

@Hero

Hero:

Draw a line through as many points as possible and particularly be sure to make sure the line goes through the first and last points. Extend the line so that it crosses the x or y axis and a horizontal/vertical line as shown. Then find the slope of the line. You should be able to calculate a value that is approximately close to one of the given choices.

mathclass:

so 1?

Hero:

What did you calculate for the rise and run?

mathclass:

i dont know how to do that

Timmyspu:

Rise/run

Hero:

Ari1234442:

This is what corolation means

Ari1234442:

When two sets of data are strongly linked together we say they have a High Correlation. The word Correlation is made of Co- (meaning "together"), and Relation. Correlation is Positive when the values increase together, and. Correlation is Negative when one value decreases as the other increases.

darkknight:

Rise/run is your slope. You have to calculate your slope. Now let me give u an example. Rise is how much the line changes in the y-direction and run is how much in the x-direction, So for this |dw:1608572535118:dw| Then for this example, we see that the run is 2 units (travels 2 units in x-direction) and the rise is -2 units because it travels 2 units DOWN in the y-direction, Rise/run so -2/2 which gives a slope of -1

mathclass:

so 3,5 ?

darkknight:

Thats just a segment of a line btw, a line extends on forever on both sides so its fine if we look at a segment

Hero:

Listen to @Ari1234442

Timmyspu:

Or @darkknight

darkknight:

alr, so lets look at the trendline that hero gave us one point (0,3) and another point (4,5) can you take the slope from here? Remember that slope is rise/run. Calculate change of y over change of x

Hero:

@Ari123442 is explaining what correlation is, which is what the asker needs to understand.

Ari1234442:

Yes, that is right do you get it?

mathclass:

ya

Ari1234442:

Ok good

darkknight:

Well if u have learned what correlation means you can scroll up now, i gave a response on slope. \[(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)\] is formula

Hero:

Correlation In A Nutshell: 1. Is data positively related or negatively related? 2. Is the value of the correlation closer to -1, 0, or 1?

Hero:

Answer those two questions, and you'll have your answer

mathclass:

negatively related

mathclass:

Positive

Hero:

The direction of the slope should tell you whether it is negatively or positively related. Yes it is positive, correct. Now look at your answer choices. Which value is consistent with a positive correlation?

mathclass:

1

Hero:

Exactly. You had it right earlier.

Ari1234442:

Good Job

mathclass:

thank you

Ari1234442:

Have a good day.
