Uhm, okay, so i'm assuming your test is going to be on the things in your quizlet. So, uhm, I'd say you should go through the cards since there's only a few, and read them, and memorize them. Once you're done, I can quiz you on them if you want to see what you need to focus on and what you know well (:

mxddi3:

okay so since you asked, the topic is writing the constitution. So, basically in 1787, a bunch of men, later known as the founding fathers, met in Philadelphia at something called the Constitutional Convention. This convention was put together because the Articles were just too weak, and the states needed something different. Now following the order of your flashcards, there were issues that the men were divided on. For example, the national government being so strong, representation in Congress, slavery, etc. Some men felt very passionately about these topics and felt they must be in the constitution. For the topic of representation, there were 2 plans thought of--the New Jersey Plan and the Virginia Plan. The New Jersey plan was favored by smaller states and they wanted a unicameral (one house) congress with equal representation for all states. The LARGER states favored the Virginia Plan, and this plan outlined a bicameral (2 house) legislature that would have 3 branches and representation is based on population. To appease both sides, the GREAT COMPROMISE was made. This created the House and the Senate, and the senate has equal representation and the House is based on a state's population. Now, the issue with slavery--the smaller states wanted the slaves to count towards their population in order to give them more representation. Larger areas were not so into this idea. So, we made the THREE-FIFTHS COMPROMISE which said 3/5 of all slaves counted towards a state's population. With this new gov't, the national gov. was now able to levy import tariffs, but not exports. This is the COMMERCE COMPROMISE. ok make sense so far? There's another half to it i can give you.

mxddi3:

ok s from there, it's pretty simple. What is federalism? split of power between the states and the national government. What is the executive branch? Contains the POTUS (president) and they carry out laws. What's the Legislative? Contains Congress and they propose & pass laws. What's the Judicial? They have the courts and they interpret laws, and settle disputes among the states. and then checks and balances? As your cards say, they keep one branch from gaining too much power by having each branch rely on another for something. An example of this is when the a bill gets vetoed. And then amendments--they need to be passed by 2/3 of Congress and 3/4 of states in order to make sure it's something most people want. if that made sense to you, please use the test feature on quizlet and then show me what you got.
