Pusheen:

Let’s take a look at the question and it’s answers. “ What type of counterclaim best strengthens your argument? 1. A counterclaim that agrees with your original claim so there is no opposition 2. A counterclaim that allows you to get emotionally involved with the argument 3. A counterclaim that lets you repeat evidence you have already shared 4. A counterclaim that presents a popular and reasonable opposing perspective” Let’s start off with 1. The point of a counterclaim to strengthen your argument is that it strengthens your argument. The idea is not to provide a claim that can’t be opposed because in reality there is no claim that can’t be opposed. You need to strengthen your argument by including claims that are backed up by evidence and which are also logical. Next, an emotional approach to a topic can be helpful, but only for certain topics. For example, the main thing you want to avoid when creating an argument is bias which generally includes emotional appeals. So this answer is not exactly ideal either. Then you also have the issue of avoiding repetition. Nothing annoys a reader or an audience more than an argument that is being repeated over and over again. The idea is to state your argument/position clearly. Then you want to develop your argument by including evidence and exploring different sections of your argument. So in essence, this answer is definitely not ideal. Finally, this answer is the one I agree with the most. See, although the idea of an argument is for you to present your position, you also want to make it appeal to your audience. In order to do this, you need to make sure that it’s a topic that will interest your audience based on their age, experience, and more factors. Presenting an opposing opinion/position in your argument that is reasonable will help to strengthen your argument. Although the position may oppose your original argument, you can solve this issue by analyzing the position and explaining in what way(s) the opposing argument is weaker than yours or why it isn’t logical, etc. So in my opinion, I would go with the last answer (4). Hope this helped and please click a medal for me if it did :) - Pusheen
