Erisgoddess:

it is about radicals

Erisgoddess:

help plzzz

AZ:

@Erisgoddess Do you they want your answer as a decimal?

Erisgoddess:

no

AZ:

Okay so then it's fairly simple

AZ:

\(4d + 1 = \sqrt{3}\) What do you get when you subtract 1 on both sides?

Erisgoddess:

ok

AZ:

we want to subtract 1 on both sides so that we can get d all on its own

Erisgoddess:

thank you

AZ:

we're not done yet

AZ:

what is 1 - 1

Erisgoddess:

-1

AZ:

if I have 1 apple, and I give you the apple how many apples do I have?

Erisgoddess:

0

AZ:

so what is 1 -1 =

Erisgoddess:

0

AZ:

now we're making progress!

Erisgoddess:

omg I'm so stupid

Erisgoddess:

shm

Erisgoddess:

smh

AZ:

so we had \( 4d + 1 = \sqrt{3}\) we subtract 1 on both sides \( 4d + 1 - 1 = \sqrt{3} - 1\) we said 1 - 1 = 0 so we have now \( 4d = \sqrt{3} - 1\) now we just want to get d all by itself

Erisgoddess:

ok

AZ:

to get rid of that 4 that's with d let's think, d is being multiplied by 4 if we want to remove it, we have to do the OPPOSITE of multiplying what is the opposite of multiplication? is it addition, subtraction, or division?

Erisgoddess:

division

AZ:

good! so what we have to do to move that 4 to the other side is to divide 4 on both sides

AZ:

does that make sense?

Erisgoddess:

yep

AZ:

so we have|dw:1614985615441:dw|

AZ:

what is 4d / 4 =

Erisgoddess:

1

AZ:

are you sure what happened to the d

Erisgoddess:

1d

AZ:

there you go! and 1d is the same thing as d so there you have it |dw:1614985727815:dw|

Erisgoddess:

ok

Erisgoddess:

thank you

AZ:

no problem!

Erisgoddess:

I promise I'm not that stupid

AZ:

Haha don't worry!! Happens to the best of us :)
