2x + y = -2 x + y = 5 The y-coordinate of the solution to the system shown is _____. a.12 b.-12 c.-7 d.7

AZ:

Since we want to find the y-coordinate, let's solve one of the equations for 'x' and plug it into the other equation so we're left only with the y And then we can solve for y x + y = 5 What do you get if you solve it for x? Just subtract 'y' on both sides, what do you get?

i dont know scincerily i am sorry i am not mentally stable so studying was not on my agenda🙃

meganmoney543:

0

meganmoney543:

🤷🏻‍♀️

AZ:

good, you're more mentally stable than you think so when we subtract `y` on both sides x + y = 5 x + y - y = 5 -y we're left with x = 5 - y does that make sense?

meganmoney543:

kinda is there a way to use basketball terms to make it easier or baseball

AZ:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @meganmoney543 kinda is there a way to use basketball terms to make it easier or baseball \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) lol we'll see so now remember that they gave you two equations in your original question 2x + y = -2 x + y = 5 but now we took that second equation `x + y = 5` and we moved the y over to give us `x = 5 - y`

AZ:

now we need to plug in the second equation into the first equation so we said x = 5 -y so that means x equals 5 -y so imagine if we had two baseballs we're saying that the 2 baseballs are same so 'x' is a baseball and 'y-5' is also a baseball and they're both the same so you could play with either baseball in a baseball game now in our first equation, we also have an 'x' ! that means we have a baseball there and we can replace it with our other baseball of 'y-5' since x is the same as y-5 they're both baseballs does that make sense?

meganmoney543:

that makes alot more sense

meganmoney543:

thankk you

AZ:

I'm sorry I switched from saying 5-y and was accidentally saying y - 5 but it should be 5-y

AZ:

so we have 2x + y = -2 so we replace the 'x' with 5-y and we get 2(5-y) + y = -2 can you distribute the 2 now inside the parenthesis?

AZ:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @meganmoney543 that makes alot more sense \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @meganmoney543 thankk you \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) No problem! Let me know what you get as your final answer so I can check it for you

meganmoney543:

ok

meganmoney543:

is it 12

AZ:

That's correct!

meganmoney543:

yayyyyy

AZ:

Good job :)

meganmoney543:

thxxxx ur amazing🙃
