help math

new2luv:

number one leave your answer in terms of pi

cheeseburger:

Im new help

new2luv:

@AZ

AZ:

\(\text{surface area of sphere} = 4 \pi r^2\) \(\text{volume of sphere} = \dfrac{4}{3} \pi r^3\) just plug in whatever r (or radius) value they gave you and solve

new2luv:

r=3

AZ:

yes, for #1 r = 3 can you put that into the equation and solve? what is 4 * pi * (3)^2 that's your surface area

new2luv:

12.56 * (3)^2

AZ:

why did you multiply the pi? the question says to leave your answer in terms of pi do you know what 3^2 means? 3^2 just means 3 squared which means 3 * 3 if we had 3^3 that means 3 to the power of 3 which means we multiply 3 by itself 3 times so 3 * 3 * 3

AZ:

so what is 3 * 3 * 4 we don't want to multiply the pi, we just want to leave it as pi

new2luv:

12

AZ:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @new2luv 12 \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) are you sure? 3 times 3 times 4 equals what?

new2luv:

yeah

AZ:

no what is 3 times 4

new2luv:

12

AZ:

so what is 3 times 3 times 4 if 3 * 4 = 12 then what is 3 * 3 * 4 = ??????????????????

new2luv:

36

AZ:

there you go

AZ:

\(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{Originally Posted by}}\) @AZ yes, for #1 r = 3 can you put that into the equation and solve? what is 4 * pi * (3)^2 that's your surface area \(\color{#0cbb34}{\text{End of Quote}}\) so for surface area we had 4 * pi * 3^2 and you just said that 4 * 3 * 3 = 36 so that means the surface area is SA = 4 * pi * 3^2 SA = 36 * pi

AZ:

so your answer in terms of pi would be \( 36\pi\) for surface area when radius = 3 does that make sense?

new2luv:

yes

AZ:

now let's calculate the volume when the radius = 3 volume = 4/3 * pi * (3)^3 what is 3^3 = remember 3^3 is just 3 * 3 * 3
