Another way to tap the power of imagination is through place. My own background as a writer is rooted in nature, having grown up reading Henry David Thoreau, Rachel Carson, and John Muir long before I ever dipped into Madeleine L'Engle, Lloyd Alexander, Ursula Le Guin, E. B. White, or J.R.R. Tolkien. My early writings were really nature journals; at nine, I wrote a complete biography—of a tree. (It was a once-majestic chestnut tree not far from my home.) So it should come as no surprise that I view place as much more than just a setting for a story. It is, in truth, another form of character, no less alive and complex, mysterious and contradictory, than the richest character in human form. What does this paragraph imply about the way the author would treat the setting in his work? The author does not think the setting or place of a story is important. The author thinks the setting or place is the most important part of a story. The author does not think the other parts of a story are important. The author thinks the setting can influence the story as much as characters can.

IhelpUuHELPme:

You can eliminate answer choices A and C bc most of the paragraph described how the setting can impact the author's work, such as a biography or story. "So it should come as no surprise that I view the place as much more than just a setting for a story. " this sentence implies that the author views it much more than just a setting. Which leaves you with Answer choices B and D, based on what I have said already, what do you think the right answer choice is?

Nice shot! I always dreamed I'd lose the championship by a missed free throw. What is the verbal irony in this statement? The speaker feels that getting to the championship is as good as winning. The speaker didn't want to win the championship but feels the last shot was a good try. The speaker has always dreamed of winning a basketball championship. The speaker is frustrated by the loss and does not believe the last shot was a good one.

Hoodmemes:

Let's Look at definitions first. Verbal Irony: "Verbal irony occurs when the literal meaning of what someone says is different from—and often opposite to—what they actually mean." Example: *A child steps on his mother's foot and doesn't say "Sorry"-Mothers Response: "Oh thank you for stepping on my foot" * This would be an example of (Sarcastic Verbal Irony), I'd say that "Nice shot! I always dreamed I'd lose the championship by a missed free throw." which would also be defined as (Sarcastic Verbal Irony). As said in the (Definition) of (Verbal Irony) it's basically when a person says the opposite of what they really mean in a very sarcastic way. We can break down the sentence into the actual meaning of the speaker's words. "Nice shot! I always dreamed I'd lose the championship by a missed free throw." He doesn't think the shot was great, he lost his championship all because of a free throw and now feels bad about it-he obviously wanted to win the championship from the get-go-he is basically covering up his annoyance with missing the shot with pure sarcasim. We would look for something that sounds similar to these words ^ We can cross off answer options A and B, as stated those would match with the sarcastic words he used before we broke it down to understand. This leaves answer options C and D Now C seems to state some good information that matches part of what we broke down but not all so it would be crossed off. This leaves answer option D, when comparing it to our breakdown of the true meaning it looks correct and very similar, it even better explains why our breakdown of it was correct. So with this being said Answer Option (D.| The speaker is frustrated by the loss and does not believe the last shot was a good one.) would be the correct answer option (This is answering the second question U posted in the comments, not the first, Hope this helps!)
