@AZ

AZ:

Arithmetic sequence means they're adding or subtracting by a constant number Geometric sequence means they're multiplying or dividing by a constant number

AZ:

So we have 2, 11, 20, ... we go from 2 to 11 and then we go from 11 to 20 can you add the same number to get from 2 to 11 and then from 11 to 20 or are they multiplying by a number to go from 2 to 11 and then from 11 to 20?

Allison:

Adding 9

AZ:

Exactly! So since they're adding by a constant number, it's an arithmetic sequence

I'm not sure what the options are but I'm assuming it probably says common ratio or common difference common difference is for arithmetic sequences and this is that constant number that they're adding or subtracting by to get the next number common ratio is for geometric sequences and it's that constant number that they're multiplying or dividing by to get the next number

AZ:

and so you have all the information you already need you said they're adding by a constant number since you're adding that makes it an arithmetic sequence and that number they're constantly adding by is the common difference

Allison:

Thank you for the explanation

I thought I had it right? ):

Allison:

It's being divided by 10

Allison:

I'm so sure of this ahh

AZ:

That's right!!

Allison:

It says it's wrong, I have one more attempt

Allison:

Oh wow it's supposed to be 1/10

AZ:

whaaaa how

Allison:

This is so stupid

AZ:

OH

Allison:

): I was confident dang

AZ:

okay so the way to find common ratio is to take the second term and divide it by the first 30/300 = 1/10

AZ:

sorry about that :(

Allison:

My mistake, not yours

AZ:

no no, I should have caught it and realized );

Allison:

It's okay, thank you for your help

Allison:

Math is eating my brain, I need a shower break =) Will you be here in about an hour or so? Free to help?

AZ:

I shall most likely still be awake instead of sleeping haha :)

Allison:

Okie dokie thanks :)

AZ:

It's my pleasure, Maryam!!
