Hemophilia, a blood clotting disorder, is a sex-linked recessive trait. In order to express hemophilia, females need two copies of the allele. Men, however, only need one copy of the gene to express hemophilia. A woman who is a carrier for hemophilia (heterozygous) has a child with a man who does not have hemophilia. Complete the Punnett square below. Answers may be used more than once.
Can you fill out the Punnett square?
your not supposed to do it for them..
for punnet squares that already have the top and side filled in for you, you should take what's from the direct left and top from each square and put it in the appropriate square. Please let me know if this explanation is confusing.
\(\sf X^{H}Y\) is the unaffected father \(\sf X^{H} X^{h}\) is the carrier mother so if they have \(\sf X^{h}\) along with a Y chromosome, then that means they'll be affected but if they have an \(\sf X^{h}\) with a normal X chromosome (\(\sf X^{H}\)) then they'll be a carrier If they have two \(\sf X^h X^h\) then they'll be an affected female
keep in mind lower case h = carrier or affected you need only one to be affected if you're a male you need two to be affected if you're a female and if you're a female and only have one, then you're a carrier upper case H = normal, not carrying that trait
thanks
remember males are XY females are XX
