So there's 6 billion people as of July 18th, 1999 4.2 births and 1.7 deaths occur each seconds That's a net gain of 2.5 births every second So how many births is that in a minute? In an hour? And then in a day? And then multiply by 365 to find out how many more people are added to the population in 1 year And so how many years would it take to gain an additional 1,000,000,000 population? You would just divide that number 1,000,000,000 / (net gain of births per year)

crispyrat:

ok so if there is 31,536,000 secs in a year than there is 31,536,000*2.5 ppl born every year is that correct?

AZ:

60* 60 * 24 * 365 gets you 31,536,000 seconds in a year so that's correct and so yeah 2.5 * 60* 60 * 24 * 365 would tell you how many are born in a year

crispyrat:

u get 78,840,000

AZ:

mhmm and so how many years for you to reach a billion people if each year you have like 78.8 million people added to the population

crispyrat:

oh ok its around 12

AZ:

yeah 12.68 and so we were in July 1999 12 years after that and then it's 0.68 of a year which is more than half a year so it would probably extend into the next year

crispyrat:

ok so arounf 2012?

AZ:

yeah, that's what I would say
