QuestionCoveBot:

You better know what negative integers are, right?

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

Rylee88:

I know WHAT they are but I don't know how to add nor subtract (Stop sending links)

Rylee88:

I don't want to go on links, I want someone to tell me how to do them in an explanatory way.

XxXNessalulbaddieXxX:

@questioncovebot u got this lol

06natrod52378:

-6-4= -10 -6+4=-2

Rylee88:

Wow, that helps....

what do u not under stand?

QuestionCoveBot:

To add and/or subtract numbers, you always start from zero. Adding, obviously count upwards. Subtracting, downwards. For example; Calculating 5 - 6 - 1 Starting from zero, count up to 5, subtract 6 (which would then be -1), then subtract 1 from that which is -2. Understand?

Rylee88:

Sort of.

QuestionCoveBot:

Okay, moving on... So... Adding. 10 + -7 Since the positive number is bigger than the negative number, it's basically 10 - 7 which is 3. So 10 + -7 = 3 But... 5 + -7 -7 is *technically* the bigger number. So instead 5 + -7 would be -2 instead. So basically, if the positive number is smaller (or lesser), the outcome is always negative. If the positive is bigger, then the outcome is always positive.

Rylee88:

Ohhh okay Thanks!

QuestionCoveBot:

Subtracting.

QuestionCoveBot:

Is different.

Rylee88:

Yes

QuestionCoveBot:

So, gimme a second for that.

Rylee88:

Okay xD

Rylee88:

brb

Rylee88:

keep going though lool

QuestionCoveBot:

So, to have negative subtraction, the equation always should look like this: 10 - (-7) so no confusion happens. And since it's minus and negative, they cancel each other out making it adding. So... 10 - (-7) is really 10 +7 which is 17. For the other way around... Say... 5 - (-7) It's the same thing.

Rylee88:

OHHHHHHHHH

Just saying this real quick, This could be wrong in some cases but it depends on grade level and what class just the first one here is wrong I think. (Just in some cases)
