How did the Kansas-Nebraska Act affect the future of Kansas? Settlers in Kansas unanimously agreed to move to become a slave state. Kansas assumed a neutral position and was neither a free nor slave state. Individuals rushed to Kansas to cast votes on the issue of slavery. Settlers moved out of Kansas to nearby states to avoid conflict.

You may read the section about the "Aftermath" of the Kansas-Nebraska Act (specifically the section "Bleeding Kansas") to get some idea of the effect the Act had on the region. A hint: the conflict was violent, and the decision was not unanimous. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas%E2%80%93Nebraska_Act#Aftermath
