YungBanDro:

What poetic element is used in this excerpt from John Milton's Paradise Lost? Regions of sorrow, doleful shades, where peace And rest can never dwell, hope never comes That comes to all; but torture without end Still urges, and a fiery Deluge, fed With ever-burning Sulphur unconsum'd:

NeverAlone:

Is it multiple choice or is it open ended?

YungBanDro:

multiple choice- A.complex syntax B.tetrameter C.blank verse D.iambic pentameter

SmokeyBrown:

Since Milton seems to be describing the scenery in this passage, using very colorful and vibrant language that appeals to the senses, I think he may be using "imagery" (but that isn't one of the options anyway) Based on the options given, the structure of the sentences is certainly pretty complex, so A could be a possible choice; Tetrameter would not be the answer, since each line is exactly 10 syllables, which cannot be split evenly into 4 parts; Blank verse is possible, since the lines in the verse do not rhyme; Iambic Pentameter is also possible, since each line is 10 syllables, consisting of 5 "Iambs", each of 2 syllables. I think your strongest choices would be either "Blank Verse" or "Iambic Pentameter", and I'm leaning more towards "Blank Verse", since that can also refer to a specific form of Iambic Pentameter
