hhanan:

Which of the following could be factored by grouping?

hhanan:

minustempo:

look at the similarities between terms

hhanan:

the last option?

minustempo:

well technically you could factor by grouping 1, 3, and 4 I'm not sure what your teacher wants

AZ:

factor by grouping is when you split it up into 2 groups and you're able to factor each of those groups and then factor something else that's common let me show you an example: 5x + 10y + 2x + 4y if we separate it into two groups 5x + 10y 2x + 4y factor each one 5x + 10y = 5(x + 2y) and 2x + 4y = 2(x + 2y) so now we go from 5x + 10y + 2x + 4y to having 5(x + 2y) + 2(x+2y)

AZ:

now to make this next part easier to see let's just say x+2y is an apple or 'a' 5a+ 2a = 7a and then replace the 'a' with x+2y so basically we were able to factor that x+2y from both of those terms and we get a final answer of 7*(x+2y)

AZ:

so take a look at your answer choices now factor the first two terms and then factor the second two terms separately do you get a factor that's common between them?
