Mochi:

Will people of color be better off or worse off if they rejected meritocracy? I chose to write my paper on why they would be better off if they rejected it but I'm having a hard time coming up with some reasons why, to complete my paper.

Many people assume that success is determined by one’s morality and worth. Meritocracy holds the theme that rewards of work should be given to those who possess skill and effort. More or so, holding on to the belief of meritocracy makes individuals more selfish and prone to acting out in discriminatory behavior. David Stovall, a professor of educational-policy studies states that “If young folks see themselves being discriminated against, they’ve been told that a system is fair, and they experience things that are unfair, they will begin to reject this particular system and engage in behaviors that will not be to their betterment.” In addition, families of color would be better off if they rejected the belief in meritocracy. This is what I have so far, the introduction.
