I heard from someone direct answers are bad, so I'll just ask, what do you get if you add 39.99 and 20.73? It looks like they're doing that to get 39.99 from 11.63.

You cannot add/subtract the numbers because this is *exponential* growth.
To find the exponential growth factor, divide the number of phones sold by the phones sold that previous year.
For example, you can divide 2010’s sales (39.9 million) by 2009’s sales (20.73 million) to get the growth factor
Once you have the growth factor, multiply 2010’s sales by the growth factor once to get 2011’s total and again to get 2012’s total
